5 Signs Your Hiring Process Is Losing Good Candidates
July 12, 2026
The best candidates have options. If your process has any of these five problems, they are choosing someone else.
1. No Response Within 72 Hours
A candidate who applies and hears nothing for a week has already moved on emotionally. A simple acknowledgment within 24 hours keeps the door open.
2. More Than 4 Interview Rounds
Four rounds is the ceiling for most mid-level roles. If you need five or six, you either do not trust your process or are trying to have consensus across too many stakeholders.
3. Salary Revealed Only at Offer
Candidates who get to the offer stage and find the number is 20% below their ask are not just declining. They are telling three colleagues about it.
4. Generic Rejection Emails
If your rejection says "we had many strong candidates," you have wasted a branding opportunity. A brief, specific thank-you takes 30 seconds and candidates remember it.
5. No Feedback After Final Rounds
Final-round candidates who do not get an offer have invested 4-8 hours. Companies that offer a brief debrief get referrals. Those that send a template do not.
If your process has two or more of these, you are competing at a disadvantage. We can help you audit your hiring funnel.
